Hyacinth
About Hyacinth
Hyacinth is an in-browser Flash game, in a traditional rogue-like style. Explore randomly generated dungeons full of monsters and treasure, all represented as letters and punctuation. It was built with Abobe Flex, a more programmer-centric framework for building Flash files.
What is a Rogue-like
Rogue was a game made in the early 80s, using only a text-based display to portray a dungeon crawl game. Some notable games in the genre since then have been NetHack, ADOM, and Angband. Rogue-likes tend to have strong randomly generated elements, they often use text-based displays (just like rogue), and they are often quite difficult.

Quick Overview
The @ symbol in the middle of the screen represents your character. You use the arrow keys to move around the dungeon. Generally speaking, letters represent monsters of various kinds, and punctuation represents. Walls are # characters, while solid squares are closed doors and hollow squares are open doors. (To open a door, simply walk into it.) Staircases are represented as > (leading down) and < (leading up).
The goal of the game is to descend to the 10th level of the dungeon, retrieve a powerful artifact from the final boss monster, and return to the first level. Proceed to the staircase leading up on the first level (where you started) and leave the dungeon to win. As you descend deeper, however, the monsters will become stronger and stronger. To help you out, you will gradually become more powerful as you defeat monsters, and the equipment that you find will also become more powerful the deeper you are in the dungeon.
Hitting 'H' in-game will open the help menu, which has more in-depth instructions.
Usage
